Termux Security
How Andronix mirrors Termux releases from F-Droid, and how to verify the APK yourself using MD5 checksums and VirusTotal reports.
Docs for Andronix app 8.x (Classic)
This page explains where Andronix gets its Termux builds and how you can confirm that they are identical to the official F-Droid releases.
Since Termux ended support for the Google Play Store, Andronix 6.0 gives you an easier way to install it on your Android device without even leaving the app.
Termux now uses the F-Droid Store to build and host its app binaries. Downloading directly from F-Droid is easy, but we decided to integrate the process into the Andronix app for the following reasons:
-
F-Droid is an amazing FOSS store, but sadly it's slow. To counter this, we copy the latest tested releases of Termux from their F-Droid repository to our GitHub repository.
-
This integrated process also helps eliminate the errors and warnings that APK files downloaded from F-Droid typically trigger.
Is this safe?
Termux has to build its APK binary on F-Droid, in full view of millions of developers. Both Termux and the F-Droid Store are open source.
Same binaries?
We copy the F-Droid binaries to our GitHub repository without changing the actual file. You can confirm this yourself by downloading the file and calculating its MD5 checksum.
MD5 Checksum
Below are the MD5 checksums of the latest Termux release on our repository and the latest Termux release on their F-Droid repository. They should match.
