Step 4 · Use it

Install Apps

Install browsers, IDEs like VS Code and IntelliJ IDEA, LibreOffice and GIMP inside your Andronix Linux distro, with the commands for each distro.

Your distro can install thousands of Linux apps with its own package manager. This page covers the ones people ask about most: browsers, IDEs, LibreOffice and GIMP.

Run these commands inside the distro (not in the Termux shell). Andronix 2.0 logs you in as your own user, so the commands use sudo. On Manjaro, where sudo doesn't work yet, open a root shell from Termux with andronix start manjaro --root and leave out sudo.
To open graphical apps, start the desktop first. See Start the desktop.

Browsers

Firefox comes preinstalled on every desktop install from Andronix 2.0, unless you installed with --no-browser. On Ubuntu, it comes from Mozilla's own repository, because Ubuntu's Firefox is a Snap and Snaps don't work in Andronix.

Firefox

If you skipped it, or you're on an install from before Andronix 2.0:

DistroCommand
Debian, Kali Linuxsudo apt install firefox-esr
UbuntuReinstall with the browser: andronix install ubuntu --reinstall (Ubuntu's own package is a Snap)
Fedorasudo dnf install firefox
Arch, Manjarosudo pacman -S firefox
Alpinesudo apk add firefox
Void Linuxsudo xbps-install -S firefox
--reinstall deletes the distro first. Copy anything you want to keep to /sdcard, or back it up.

Chromium

DistroCommand
Debian, Kali Linuxsudo apt install chromium
Fedorasudo dnf install chromium
Arch, Manjarosudo pacman -S chromium
Alpinesudo apk add chromium
Void LinuxNot packaged for Void.

Chromium can't use its sandbox in Andronix. If it doesn't open from the app menu, start it from a terminal with:

chromium --no-sandbox
On 32-bit (armv7) phones, browsers may fail to start.

IDEs

VS Code

VS Code comes preinstalled with Modded OS. On a free distro based on Debian (Debian, Ubuntu, Kali Linux), run:

sudo apt install wget -y && wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/AndronixApp/AndronixOrigin/master/Uninstall/vscode_patch.sh && chmod +x vscode_patch.sh && sudo ./vscode_patch.sh

IntelliJ IDEA

IntelliJ IDEA needs a Java JDK. Add one with the Java dev pack:

sudo andronix pack add java

Then:

  1. Download the latest Linux .tar.gz from the JetBrains download page into your Downloads folder.

  2. Extract it, replacing the xs with the version in the file name:

    tar -xzf ~/Downloads/ideaIU-2xxx.x.x.tar.gz -C ~/
  3. Start it:

    ~/ideaIU-2xxx.x.x/bin/idea.sh
Want Python, Node.js, Go or PostgreSQL for your projects? Each is one command with dev packs.

LibreOffice

LibreOffice is a free, full office suite.

DistroCommand
Debian, Ubuntu, Kali Linuxsudo apt install wget -y && wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/AndronixApp/AndronixOrigin/master/Uninstall/librepatch.sh && sudo bash librepatch.sh
Arch, Manjarowget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/AndronixApp/AndronixOrigin/master/Uninstall/librepatch_arch.sh && sudo bash librepatch_arch.sh

The scripts install LibreOffice and patch it so it starts in Andronix.

GIMP

GIMP is a free image editor.

DistroCommand
Debian, Ubuntu, Kali Linuxsudo apt update && sudo apt install gimp
Fedorasudo dnf install gimp
Arch, Manjarosudo pacman -Syu gimp
