Step 2 · Install a distro

Install without the App

Install any free Andronix distro straight from Termux with one command, without the Andronix app.

You don't need the Andronix app to install a free distro. One line in Termux sets up the andronix command and runs the install.

You need a current Termux first. See Install Termux.

Install

Paste this into Termux, replacing debian and xfce with the distro and desktop you want:

(curl -fsSL --retry 4 --retry-delay 3 https://dl.andronix.app/get.sh -o $PREFIX/tmp/get.sh || curl -4 -fsSL --retry 2 --retry-delay 3 https://dl.andronix.app/get.sh -o $PREFIX/tmp/get.sh) && sh $PREFIX/tmp/get.sh install debian --de xfce

It downloads andronix (retrying if the connection drops, and trying again over IPv4 if IPv6 is broken on your network), checks it against its published checksum, installs it in Termux, and starts the install. It downloads the script first and then runs it, so the installer can still ask you questions.

If Termux doesn't have proot yet, the installer installs it first.

If curl itself fails to start (common on an old Termux that was only half updated), repair Termux with the same commands the app's install command uses, then run the command above again:

DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get update && DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get -y -o Dpkg::Options::=--force-confdef -o Dpkg::Options::=--force-confold full-upgrade && DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get -y -o Dpkg::Options::=--force-confdef -o Dpkg::Options::=--force-confold install curl

Use apt-get, not pkg: pkg runs curl itself, so it fails on a broken curl too. The options keep the upgrade from stopping to ask about config files; files you changed are kept.

  • Distros: debian, ubuntu (26.04 LTS), ubuntu24 (24.04 LTS), kali, fedora, arch, manjaro, alpine, void. See Supported distros.
  • Desktops: xfce, lxqt, mate, kde (Debian, Ubuntu 26.04 and Kali only), or none for the command line only. Not sure? See Choose a distro and desktop.

What you'll see

andronix install debian --de xfce

The installer lists its steps and ticks each one off as it finishes:

✓ Checking your phone
✓ Finding the best download
✓ Downloading Debian 13
✓ Unpacking files
✓ Setting up Debian 13
✓ Refreshing package lists
✓ Updating Debian 13
✓ Installing XFCE desktop · 250 packages
✓ Installing Firefox
✓ Setting up the desktop
✓ Writing start-debian.sh

Then it asks you to create your user (a username, a password, and a desktop password), and takes you into the distro. From then on, start it with ./start-debian.sh (or the start script for your distro).

If the install stops for any reason, run the same command again. It continues where it stopped. See The install fails or stops.

Install more distros

Once andronix is installed, you don't need the long command anymore:

andronix install kali --de lxqt

See the andronix command for every option.
